President The Staten Island Trial Lawyers Association 2009-2011Founded in 1965, the mission of this fine organization is to foster ethics, education and good will among Staten Island lawyers and to protect the rights and civil liberties of the Staten Island community in a fair, respectable and competent manner. In 2009, Tom Tormey was elected the president of this fine organization.

The Special Investigations Unit is a bureau of elite prosecutors handling long range, complex investigations and prosecutions of major narcotics violators. The offenders being investigated and prosecuted were international, national and local narcotics dealers who were involved in the manufacturing and distribution large quantities of narcotics. Mr. Tormey, as Bureau Chief, was responsible for the running of the bureau, lending assistance to attorneys in his bureau, making critical decisions on all cases as well as trying cases that he and others had worked on.
